Last night my four-year-old interrupted our bedtime prayer to ask if God has a belly button. I laughed. Then I cried not because it was funny, but because I'd been white-knuckling the day since 6 AM, and that tiny ridiculous question cracked something open in me.
Here's what nobody tells you about motherhood and faith: the "quiet time" you imagined candles, journal, uninterrupted worship that's not the season you're in. And pretending it should be will wreck you. Your season looks like whispered prayers over a sleeping toddler. Scripture read one verse at a time between snack requests. Worship that sounds like "Jesus, help me not lose it today."
Scripture Passage
BSB
11 He tends His flock like a shepherd; He gathers the lambs in His arms and carries them close to His heart. He gently leads the nursing ewes.
BSB
"He gently leads those that have young." Gently. Not hurriedly. Not impatiently. Not with a checklist. If the God of the universe is gentle with you in this season, maybe you can be gentle with yourself too.
Three things I'm learning to do instead of "quiet time": 1. Pray OUT LOUD with my kids messy, real, honest prayers. They're learning faith isn't polished. 2. Keep one verse on my bathroom mirror all week. Just one. Let it soak in. 3. Thank God for one specific thing before my feet hit the floor. Even if it's just "thank You that everyone slept."
Mama, if you feel like you're failing at faith because your Bible has cheerio crumbs in it  you're not failing. You're in the trenches, and God is right there with you. He doesn't need your perfection. He just wants your heart. Even the tired, doubting, cheerio-covered version.
If this hit home, share it with a mom who needs to hear it. Or better yet, create your own deck and tell your story. We need more real voices, not more highlight reels.
