Grace Church holds a Meet & Greet for those who are newer to Grace Church on the 4th Sunday of each month following the service in CJ's coffee shop. It is a great opportunity to meet the staff and leadership of Grace Church and learn a little more about the church. It also gives us an opportunity to learn a little about you! Our summer series is called Walking with Jesus. We are looking at the life and ministry of the Lord using a chronological approach which involves a study of the Harmony of the Gospels.
Last week we learned some lessons from the account of the party at Matthew's house. We learned how Jesus can change and transform a person. We also learned that we can make a real difference just by opening our homes to people.

This week we'll be looking at John 5:1-9.
The story can be summarized like this: Jesus meets a crippled man, Jesus heals the crippled man.

It's believed the pools collected rain water and supplied water to the Temple, but over time it began to serve another purpose...the area became known for healing.
It's believed the south pool was used by the Jews for ritualistic cleansing. So it makes sense that when Jesus and the crew came to Jerusalem for a festival, that they would stop here first. They had to get cleaned up before going to the Temple. It was here that Jesus saw the mass of people seeking healing and struck up a conversation with one in particular.
The Great Commission in Matthew 28:19-20 says "Therefore go" which is translated "as you go." This is a good example of Jesus making disciples as he went.

This may apply to you and I as well...we come to church, week in and week out we hear God's Word clearly explained. We receive simple application points that we can easily implement. We see what we should do and understand why we need to do it...but are we willing to change? Are we willing to let Jesus change our life? We are the biggest obstacle to our own growth.

This is the first time that we see Jesus heal someone who didn't exhibit faith or had friends that exhibited faith. The guy doesn't appear to know anything about Jesus. We see that it's all about Jesus. It's through His power that we are healed. It's through His power that we are saved. It's through His power that we are changed. And He is Powerful!

The idea of there being five colonnades were included in the Gospel of John because they help us today.
God's Word is an incredible gift to us! It is still relevant to us in modern times. Because of that it is worth studying, memorizing, and applying to our lives. We can also lend Biblical advice to others.

2. Most people aren't looking for Jesus.
In this story, the guy who gets healed only finds Jesus because Jesus comes to him. Our world is filled with people laying around hoping to get some kind of help. People need help finding Jesus.
Start your day by asking God to help you see those people and see them the way that Jesus would see them. Then all we have to do is follow Jesus' example and make disciples as we go. Strike up conversations with them, be kind to them, help them, and at some point there will be an opportunity to talk with them about Jesus.
