The Beatitudes reveal need
The Beatitudes describe life shaped by Christ rather than a ladder of achievement. Each trait carries a promise. Read Matthew 5:3; Proverbs 3:5–7; Psalm 146:5.
Obedience from the heart
Rule-driven religion emphasizes appearances and self-righteousness. Heart obedience grows from relationship with Jesus, inward transformation, and love. The Beatitudes show salvation’s fruit, rather than earning it.
Dependence instead of boasting
The notes connect spiritual poverty with receiving righteousness by faith. Self-sufficiency seeks credit and status; dependence acknowledges limits in wisdom, strength, timing, defense, and provision.
Living under God’s rule
Following Jesus means surrendering to His kingship. Seek His wisdom in Scripture and depend on Him. Christian ethics concern actions, motives, and goals together.
