Stop the Conversation in Your Head

Pastor Zairreus Patterson · One Community Church

Adapted sermon summary. The complete original notes appear in the final PDF card.

When assumptions become conclusions

Past wounds, unmet expectations, unresolved pain, and insecurity can filter what we hear. Repeated inner conversations can make an untested interpretation feel certain. Read Mark 2:5–8.

Interrupt the cycle

Rehearsed thoughts shape beliefs, and beliefs shape behavior. Marriage is designed for mutual help and perspective, rather than treating your spouse as an opponent. Read Genesis 2:18.

Bring thoughts into conversation

Replace assumptions with questions, conclusions with clarification, and withdrawal with communication. Ask about intent, explain what you heard, and describe how it affected you.

Seek healing

The notes connect Jesus’ healing with stuck communication, patterns, pain, and distance. Reflect on the assumptions you keep repeating and the conclusions you reached without discussion.

Recognize five patterns

Mind readers presume motives. Silent prosecutors collect offenses. Highlight editors exaggerate events. Ghost interpreters assign hidden meanings. Avoidance artists suppress problems. Each needs honest conversation and understanding.
