Our May series deals with the subject of RELATIONSHIPS. Each week we'll look at categories of people who have had some form of influence upon our life.
The Bible often admonishes us to take a hard look at those who we spend time with and who cross our life path. The reason is, people exert influence, whether intentionally or unintentionally.

Not only do we need to be careful as to who shapes our life, but we should think deeply about who we are influencing and to what end!

Our message today deals with people just like that - Mighty Ones.
It's not a reference to some famous one, but to those who have dedicated themselves to helping someone achieve their place in life...to reach their God-given potential and accomplish the Lord's mission for their life.

The Bible is full of examples of people who supported, encouraged, helped, guided, and championed...that makes them mighty.
God uses the mighty ones to shape the life and ministry of someone else. In doing so, they find their own purpose in life and begin to reach their potential.

We've all had people in our lives who've invested relationally in us, taught and trained us, encouraged and corrected us, and challenged us to reach our potential.
We are who we are in large part because of the influence of the mighty ones.
This should cause us to ask, who am I coming alongside, helping, and growing as a person and in their Christian faith?

This morning our text is found in the book of Philippians chapter 1 written by the Apostle Paul while in the Mamertime Prison in Rome.
Paul is considered to be the key person in the spread of the Christian faith.
His life was characterized by intense passion, missionary activity across the Roman Empire, founding of numerous churches, authorship of many New Testament epistles, cruel torture & imprisonments, and the team of men and women who supported his endeavors and carried on the work of sharing Christ, making disciples, and planting churches...even after his death.

7 It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart. For in my chains and in my defense and confirmation of the gospel, you are all partners in grace with me.
8 God is my witness how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus.
9 And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight,
10 so that you may be able to test and prove what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,
11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

As we venture through life, we'll have countless people cross our path.
- Quick encounters with no lasting impact upon us.
- Long or short time, who leave a little residue or dust of their life upon us. They will influence us in some particular area in which we had a need, but not generate a total directional change.
- Those who you will connect with like a magnet or puzzle piece. Together you will accomplish more than you could with others or by yourself.

Whether you are the famous one or one of the mighty ones is really immaterial, because by being together, you will be better!
We will likely all find ourselves as a famous one and also a mighty one at times or stages in our life.
If we find ourselves in more of a supporting role to someone, then we should do so with all of our effort, loyalty, and commitment.

If we are being supported by others, we need to serve alongside them, treat them well, pray for their relationship with God, encourage them continually, and help them to reach their potential.
