Acts 7:30-38
BSB
30 After forty years had passed, an angel appeared to Moses in the flames of a burning bush in the desert near Mount Sinai.
31 When Moses saw it, he marveled at the sight. As he approached to look more closely, the voice of the Lord came to him:
32 ‘I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.’ Moses trembled with fear and did not dare to look.
33 Then the Lord said to him, ‘Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.
34 I have indeed seen the oppression of My people in Egypt. I have heard their groaning and have come down to deliver them. Now come, I will send you back to Egypt.’
35 This Moses, whom they had rejected with the words, ‘Who made you ruler and judge?’ is the one whom God sent to be their ruler and redeemer through the angel who appeared to him in the bush.
36 He led them out and performed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, at the Red Sea, and for forty years in the wilderness.
37 This is the same Moses who told the Israelites, ‘God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your brothers.’
38 He was in the assembly in the wilderness with the angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our fathers. And he received living words to pass on to us.
Don’t forget the PURPOSE of your holy ground encounters!
God spoke this year to be a year of encounters and visitations full of holy ground encounters where we would take off our shoes. But why? Why is God pouring out now? Why does He want to visit His people now? Why does He want angelic visitations now?
Exodus 3:1-15
BSB
1 Meanwhile, Moses was shepherding the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian. He led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.
2 There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in a blazing fire from within a bush. Moses saw the bush ablaze with fire, but it was not consumed.
3 So Moses thought, “I must go over and see this marvelous sight. Why is the bush not burning up?”
4 When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called out to him from within the bush, “Moses, Moses!” “Here I am,” he answered.
5 “Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.”
6 Then He said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” At this, Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God.
7 The LORD said, “I have indeed seen the affliction of My people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their oppressors, and I am aware of their sufferings.
8 I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land to a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey—the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites.
9 And now the cry of the Israelites has reached Me, and I have seen how severely the Egyptians are oppressing them.
10 Therefore, go! I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring My people the Israelites out of Egypt.”
11 But Moses asked God, “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”
12 “I will surely be with you,” God said, “and this will be the sign to you that I have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, all of you will worship God on this mountain.”
13 Then Moses asked God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is His name?’ What should I tell them?”
14 God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”
15 God also told Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘The LORD, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’ This is My name forever, and this is how I am to be remembered in every generation.
Holy ground encounters have PURPOSE!
What is the PURPOSE of removing our shoes?

Shoes represent authority!
Biblical Meanings of Shoes:
1. The Legal Transfer of Authority and Land Ownership
2. God's Sovereign Dominion Over Nations
3. The Reclaiming of Sonship and Authority

Exodus 3:5
BSB
5 “Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.”
Joshua 5:15
BSB
15 The Commander of the LORD’s army replied, “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so.
When God tells you to remove your shoes, He’s saying, “Remove the boundaries, remove your pride, remove your ways and plans and come under My authority.”
Warning: Do not become familiar with God or encounters with God!
This is not only important in our walk with Christ, but for what He’s calling us to and many of you have had great encounters with God, but have forgotten the purpose of that encounter!
God is not encountering you to just make you feel better, to just give you a better week, to just help you with today.

God is encountering you to transform you, to release purpose and His perfect will over you, His plans and purposes over you!
Jeremiah 29:11-14
BSB
11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you a future and a hope.
12 Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.
13 You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.
14 I will be found by you, declares the LORD, and I will restore you from captivity and gather you from all the nations and places to which I have banished you, declares the LORD. I will restore you to the place from which I sent you into exile.”
Notice what happens right before God encounters Moses in the burning bush:

He reveals His PURPOSE for the holy ground encounter.
He reveals His PURPOSE for the holy ground encounter.
Exodus 2:23-25
BSB
23 After a long time, the king of Egypt died. The Israelites groaned and cried out under their burden of slavery, and their cry for deliverance from bondage ascended to God.
24 So God heard their groaning, and He remembered His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
25 God saw the Israelites and took notice.
Moses’ God encounter was to set him free to set God’s people free!
Joshua 5:13-15
BSB
13 Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in His hand. Joshua approached Him and asked, “Are You for us or for our enemies?”
14 “Neither,” He replied. “I have now come as Commander of the LORD’s army.” Then Joshua fell facedown in reverence and asked Him, “What does my Lord have to say to His servant?”
15 The Commander of the LORD’s army replied, “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so.
God had a purpose in Moses’ holy ground encounter and in Joshua’s holy ground encounter.

God absolutely has purpose for your holy ground encounter!
Matthew 24:3-7
BSB
3 While Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming and of the end of the age?”
4 Jesus answered, “See to it that no one deceives you.
5 For many will come in My name, claiming, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many.
6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. These things must happen, but the end is still to come.
7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.
Question: Why have you forgotten your holy encounters with God?
Why are you not stewarding the purposes of God on your life that He spoke to you, that He called you into? Why are you questioning God’s purpose in the middle of the mission?
Why have you forgotten the PURPOSE of the holy ground encounters in your life?
God says, take off your shoes… for you are on holy ground. Meaning, I AM, the I AM is here and as you have just submitted yourself to My authority, this victory will be Mine, says the Lord.

The battle will be Mine, the victory will be Mine, and I will bring about what I promised!

The battle is the Lord’s!
God is a jealous God!
Understanding Human Jealousy (Envy)
In human relationships, jealousy is usually a sin driven by pride and lack of trust.

It covets: It happens when we see someone else with a better job, a nicer house, or a happier relationship, and we wish we had it instead.
It is insecure: It often stems from a fear of losing someone’s affection to a rival, leading to controlling or toxic behavior.
It is rottenness to the bones: The Bible explicitly warns against this type of jealousy, calling it "rottenness to the bones"
Proverbs 14:30
BSB
30 A tranquil heart is life to the body, but envy rots the bones.
Understanding Divine Jealousy (Zeal)
God's jealousy is not petty. It is a holy, intensely protective zeal for His own honor and the safety of His people.

He is the Creator: Worship, praise, and ultimate loyalty belong to God by right of creation. When humans worship idols or money, they are giving away something that doesn't belong to those things. God is jealous because a theft of glory is occurring.
The Marriage Metaphor: God often describes His relationship with His people as a marriage (Hosea 2). If a husband or wife sees their spouse flirting with someone else, a healthy sense of jealousy arises because the marriage covenant is being violated. God's jealousy is that of a faithful spouse whose partner is committing spiritual adultery.
For Our Good: Idols always demand sacrifice and ultimately destroy the people who worship them. God's jealousy protects us from destroying ourselves by keeping us anchored to the only true source of life.
God's jealousy is rooted in holiness and justice.

Hebrew: אֵל קַנָּא (ElQanna) = God's holy jealousy. It is dynamic, passionate, and directly tied to historic moments when Israel broke their covenant with Him.
Exodus 20:1-6
BSB
1 And God spoke all these words:
2 “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
3 You shall have no other gods before Me.
4 You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in the heavens above, on the earth below, or in the waters beneath.
5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on their children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,
6 but showing loving devotion to a thousand generations of those who love Me and keep My commandments.
Exodus 3:12
BSB
12 “I will surely be with you,” God said, “and this will be the sign to you that I have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, all of you will worship God on this mountain.”
Exodus 32:1-10
BSB
1 Now when the people saw that Moses was delayed in coming down from the mountain, they gathered around Aaron and said, “Come, make us gods who will go before us. As for this Moses who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has happened to him!”
2 So Aaron told them, “Take off the gold earrings that are on your wives and sons and daughters, and bring them to me.”
3 Then all the people took off their gold earrings and brought them to Aaron.
4 He took the gold from their hands, and with an engraving tool he fashioned it into a molten calf. And they said, “These, O Israel, are your gods, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt!”
5 When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before the calf and proclaimed: “Tomorrow shall be a feast to the LORD.”
6 So the next day they arose, offered burnt offerings, and presented peace offerings. And the people sat down to eat and drink, and got up to indulge in revelry.
7 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go down at once, for your people, whom you brought up out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves.
8 How quickly they have turned aside from the way that I commanded them! They have made for themselves a molten calf and have bowed down to it. They have sacrificed to it and said, ‘These, O Israel, are your gods, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.’”
9 The LORD also said to Moses, “I have seen this people, and they are indeed a stiff-necked people.
10 Now leave Me alone, so that My anger may burn against them and consume them. Then I will make you into a great nation.”
They are waiting on Moses, and when he delays in coming, they get caught up in temptation, distracted from faithfulness and decide to take their lives into their own hands!

They quit waiting on Moses and therefore commit adultery against God, and in the same fashion of a holy ground encounter moment between God and Moses, they forget and make an unholy ground moment by taking off their gold to form an idol to worship!
Remember God’s PURPOSE for the holy ground encounter.
The Bride gets weary of waiting, like the virgins with their lamps, and before Moses returns with the words of the Lord, the Ten Commandments, they have already betrayed God and turned to idols.
Instead of trusting God for a holy ground encounter with their God, they condemn themselves with the worship of an idol.
Church, He makes His heart for His people so clear that He desires all of us!
God is jealous for all of your worship!
God is jealous for all of your affection!
He is jealous for all of you!
His PURPOSE is this:
The holy ground encounters go from making a place holy to making a people holy!
Ephesians 5:25-27
BSB
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her
26 to sanctify her, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word,
27 and to present her to Himself as a glorious church, without stain or wrinkle or any such blemish, but holy and blameless.
1 Corinthians 3:16-17
BSB
16 Do you not know that you yourselves are God’s temple, and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?
17 If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him; for God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.
Have you forgotten His PURPOSES for your holy ground encounters?

Acts 6:11-15
BSB
11 Then they prompted some men to say, “We heard Stephen speak words of blasphemy against Moses and against God.”
12 So they stirred up the people, elders, and scribes and confronted Stephen. They seized him and brought him before the Sanhedrin,
13 where they presented false witnesses who said, “This man never stops speaking against this holy place and against the law.
14 For we have heard him say that Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place and change the customs that Moses handed down to us.”
15 All who were sitting in the Sanhedrin looked intently at Stephen, and they saw that his face was like the face of an angel.
Acts 7:51-60
BSB
51 You stiff-necked people with uncircumcised hearts and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit, just as your fathers did.
52 Which of the prophets did your fathers fail to persecute? They even killed those who foretold the coming of the Righteous One. And now you are His betrayers and murderers—
53 you who received the law ordained by angels, yet have not kept it.”
54 On hearing this, the members of the Sanhedrin were enraged, and they gnashed their teeth at him.
55 But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked intently into heaven and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.
56 “Look,” he said, “I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.”
57 At this they covered their ears, cried out in a loud voice, and rushed together at him.
58 They dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. Meanwhile the witnesses laid their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul.
59 While they were stoning him, Stephen appealed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.”
60 Falling on his knees, he cried out in a loud voice, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” And when he had said this, he fell asleep.
Acts 7:58
BSB
58 They dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. Meanwhile the witnesses laid their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul.
Exodus 3:19-20
BSB
19 But I know that the king of Egypt will not allow you to go unless a mighty hand compels him.
20 So I will stretch out My hand and strike the Egyptians with all the wonders I will perform among them. And after that, he will release you.
2 Corinthians 10:17-18
BSB
17 Rather, “Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.”
18 For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends.
You may not understand the PURPOSES of God, but you better trust the PURPOSES of God!
Hebrews 11:6
BSB
6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who approaches Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.
There is redemption in holy ground encounters!

There is freedom in holy ground encounters!

There is God-PURPOSE released in holy ground encounters!
You may not understand the PURPOSES of God, but you better trust the PURPOSES of God!
Warning: Do not fall into temptation and sin while waiting on the Lord—while waiting on His PURPOSES to unfold!
Exodus 3:12
BSB
12 “I will surely be with you,” God said, “and this will be the sign to you that I have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, all of you will worship God on this mountain.”
