Explore the profound journey from Christ's resurrection to the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, anticipating miraculous encounters in the seven weeks leading to Pentecost.
The death of Jesus on the cross for our sins was a monumental and arguably the single most important moment in human history. Yet, it was only the beginning.
If His death secured our liberation, then His resurrection confirmed the Father's acceptance of His sacrifice. In an unbroken order, His sending of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost was the culmination, the final stamp on God's plan for our deliverance from sin and death.
It's no surprise that Jews still consider the Sefirat HaOmer (the counting of 49 days until Shavuot/Pentecost) one of the most sacred periods in Judaic tradition.
“Since Shavuot (i.e. Pentecost) is the ultimate point of Passover (deliverance was given for the sake of revelation of Torah), we are called to sanctify ourselves for personal revelation by engaging in the seven weeks of repentance.”
From a Messianic/Christian perspective, Pentecost marks the day when God delivered the “Substance” of which the festival of Shavuot was merely a “type and shadow.”
While Jews gather in Jerusalem to reaffirm their commitment to the covenant of Moses, Christ infused new meaning. He sent the Holy Spirit to offer the promise of the new covenant to all who believe.
Shavuot commemorates the giving of a law that, at times, highlighted sin. Pentecost, however, celebrates the outpouring of a Spirit that brings new life. This new covenant makes Torah (law, commandment) a matter of the heart, written in God’s Spirit and yielding a life fruitful in the liberty given through the love and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Because of the resurrection and its connection to Pentecost, the counting of the seven weeks following Passover is highly symbolic for believers. The true glory and reward isn't just in the count, but in the anticipation and expectation leading up to the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the 50th day.
It's no coincidence that all of Jesus’ post-resurrection appearances occurred within these days between His resurrection and Pentecost. These were not just 'mere appearances' but powerful encounters that forever changed the lives of those who met Him.
Consider who encountered Him:
These were miraculous moments that birthed hope and brought healing.
In the same way, YOU are scheduled for a miraculous encounter with Yeshua (Jesus) over the next 7 weeks. Whatever you are dealing with, whatever you are believing God for in this season of your life, the Spirit of God has spoken concerning those who believe.
I encourage you to expect a miracle and miracles over the next weeks leading up to Pentecost. Look for it, anticipate it, expect it, and you won’t be disappointed.
As you walk this journey from Passover (Pesach) to Pentecost (Shavuot), remember: at any time you could encounter the Risen Savior, the Miracle Worker, the Great I AM. Walk these weeks with expectation and watch God blow your mind!
Amen!
