Turn your morning shower into a mobility session. Three simple stretches that loosen you up before the day even starts.
You are already standing there. The hot water is running. Your muscles are warm. Why not use those 5 minutes?
Here are three stretches I give to almost every patient. They require zero equipment, zero flexibility, and zero motivation beyond "I am already in the shower."
Place one hand flat against the shower wall at shoulder height. Slowly turn your body away from that hand until you feel a stretch across your chest and the front of your shoulder.
Hold for 20-30 seconds. Switch sides.
Why it matters: If you sit at a desk, drive a car, or look at a phone (so, everyone), your chest muscles are shortened all day. This counteracts that.
Place one heel on the edge of the tub or a low ledge. Keep your leg straight and gently lean forward from your hips (not your back) until you feel a pull behind your thigh.
Hold 20-30 seconds. Switch legs.
Why it matters: Tight hamstrings pull on your pelvis, which pulls on your lower back. This one stretch can reduce morning back stiffness significantly.
Let the warm water hit the back of your neck. Then gently tilt your head to one side, bringing your ear toward your shoulder. Do not force it. Just let gravity do the work.
Hold 15-20 seconds. Switch sides. Then gently tuck your chin to your chest and hold.
Why it matters: Your upper traps and neck muscles hold tension all day. This is the simplest way to start the day without that "carrying the world on my shoulders" feeling.
You do not need a gym membership or a yoga mat to take care of your body. You just need 3 minutes and a warm shower.
Try these every morning for one week. Most of my patients report less stiffness and better range of motion within days.
Your body will thank you before you even get dressed.
